About the Artist
Shine (they/them) is an Indian-Canadian, neurodivergent, non-binary artist who works in a variety of mediums, with a present focus on beadwork. Shine's ancestry lies in the province of Gujarat, known for its intricate and elaborate beadwork. They have been working with seed beads their entire life. They inherited this tradition through their Dadi (grandmother), who began teaching them moti nu kam (beadwork) when they were just a few years old. Today, Shine's beadwork focuses on a mixture of cultural and queer themes, symbols, and imagery, with an emphasis on honouring, affirming & celebrating queer & gender diverse identities 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
But really, who am I?
That is a question that mystifies me. There are no words that can fully embody the answer. I am ever-becoming, even as I am.
I appreciate many things…colour, sound, nature, connection, the feeling of inspiration. Sometimes these appreciations find expression through me in the form of creative exploration.
Being creative is an aspect of being alive, it seems; so here then is the evidence of my being.
